Elysia Cantu

Ms. Elysia Cantu is a graduate of Round Rock ISD. She graduated from Texas State University in May 2022 with a Bachelor of Music - Music Education.

Ms. Cantu has most recently completed her first Year of teaching at Pecan Grove Elementary in Fort Bend ISD where she was awarded Rookie Teacher of the Year. While in Fort Bend ISD, Ms. Cantu taught private lesson at Sugar Land Middle School and Bowie Middle school, judged region band auditions, judged drum major auditions, and volunteered for other band events like solo and ensemble contest. 

Ms. Cantu completed her secondary student teaching at Dahlstrom Middle School in Hays CISD with cooperating teacher Ms. Rachel Janek. At Dahlstrom Middle School, Ms. Cantu had the opportunity to teach the beginner flute, clarinet, oboe/bassoon, horn, and percussion classes as well as sectionals and rehearsals with the advanced bands. Before student teaching, Ms. Cantu completed her teaching block experience with Ms. Ruth Lim at Covington Middle School in Austin ISD where she taught beginner woodwind lessons.

As an undergraduate performer at Texas State, Ms. Cantu served as an oboe player in the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Orchestra, as well as principal oboe in the Symphonic Winds and Concert Band. She also performed mellophone for three years with the Texas State University Bobcat Marching Band. Ms. Cantu has performed with many chamber ensembles, including the Pato Pato Ganzo Oboe Trio. 

As an academic, Ms. Cantu held a 3.56 GPA and was on the Dean's List for six semesters. She was a member of the Texas State University Council of Scholars, Kappa Kappa Psi honorary band fraternity, and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. She was a recipient of the Stokes Endowed Chair in Music scholarship and the TMEA Collegiate Music Educator Award.
